Help For Loved Ones With Dementia- Related Conditions

elder law and help for loved ones with dementia

My career as an attorney working with the senior population has exposed me to the ever-increasing incidence of dementia-related decline. In an attempt to help find solutions to this growing issue, I began studying about CBD oil which is a compound (Cannabidiol) derived from the Cannabis plant. Several years ago, I discovered that CBD oil has positive medicinal effects but does not make people feel “high,” or anxious.

This discovery motivated me to become involved in the CBD business, which is legal, in various forms, in 47 states. My desire to help people is why I became an attorney and it is why I am so passionate about CBD oil. The growing research on CBD and its beneficial effects on dementia-related conditions is very promising. In recent studies, according to Dementia Care Central, “CBD has been shown to reduce or remove the impact of inflammation, oxygen buildup and brain cell decline.”

The health benefits of CBD continues to grow as does new research specifically on Alzheimer’s Disease and the variety of dementia-related conditions.

The Effects Of CBD On Alzheimer’s And Other Dementia-Related Conditions

Among the more recent information about Alzheimer’s is that inflammation occurs in the brain and that oxygen is released as part of the brain’s reactive, stress-induced component. According to information at Dementia Care Central, “When inflammation happens in the brain, oxygen is released as a result. The greater the inflammation, the greater the negative impact. Important brain functions such as memory are decreased as more oxygen is released in the brain’s cells. Memory loss and other brain deterioration indirectly leads to increased oxygen in the brain.”

The good news is that CBD is an antioxidant, which helps reduce the problems associated with oxygen stress. The article explains that brain functions negatively impacted by oxygen stress can be improved by using CBD.

According to a 2017 study conducted by researchers at California’s Salk Institute, evidence has been found that CBD could help remove dementia from and increase connections between brain cells. And according to the folks at Dementia Care Central, those results have been validated by other laboratories. The dementia-related conditions that have been found to be helped by CBD include Alzheimer’s disease, Vascular Dementia, Parkinson’s disease, Dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) Frontotemporal dementia and Huntington’s disease.

Exploring The Use Of CBD For Your Loved One

While there is currently no known cure for Alzheimer’s, the potential of stimulating brain tissue was recently discovered as a potential benefit of CBD. In addition there have been clinical trials in which CBD has shown the ability to reverse and even prevent the development of Alzheimer’s negative impact. As pointed out on Dementia Care Central, “A 2011 study by Australian researchers Tim Karl and Carl Group found that CBD promotes the growth and development of brain cells, reducing the decline of memory and other brain functions.”

As you begin to explore the use of CBD, keep in mind that there are multiple sources of CBD such as hemp, medical cannabis and isolate. You want to search out the highest quality and those that are held to the strictest levels of laboratory testing. Much hemp-based CBD is plagued by mislabeling and recent studies have found that only 31% of 84 tested hemp-based CBD products were accurately labeled. Medical, locally sourced cannabis has consistently produced the best CBD source as it is held to stricter laboratory testing for potency and contaminants. If you look for products that have been third-party tested, you can be more confident that the stated percentages are correct.
