The Estate & Asset Protection Law Firm Owner, Shannon Pawley, Addresses Common Elder Orphan And Solo Senior Concerns.

The Estate & Asset Protection Law Firm Owner, Shannon Pawley, acknowledges the issues facing seniors living alone with no family or relatives and writes about some of the services independent health advocates provide.

DECATUR, GA, January 27, 2023: Shannon Pawley, Owner of The Estate & Asset Protection Law Firm, has posted a new blog on the law firm’s website entitled “Independent Health Advocates Provide Important Services For Elder Orphans And Solo Seniors,” in which Ms. Pawley provides helpful information for the growing and vulnerable segment of the population.

Pawley writes, “If you are 65 or older, live alone and have no spouse, children, or other family members, you could be an elder orphan or a solo senior. “ She elaborates, “Elder orphans and solo seniors are those adults who have no known family members or designated surrogate available to them.”

As Pawley points out, “Many people have diminished capacity and are less able to care for themselves as they age. They may no longer be able to easily walk or drive, and may experience difficulty with basic activities like shopping, cooking, and cleaning.” According to Pawley, “The category of elder orphans and solo seniors is growing, in fact roughly 58% of people 80 and older are in this category. Many of these elders don’t know where to turn for help with important end of life decisions. Typically, these decisions are made earlier in life, together with close family members, relatives, or friends. However, that’s not always the case and elders who have not pre-planned genuinely need help.”

“If you are a solo senior or elder orphan,” Pawley states, “you may be asking yourself questions like:

  • Who will help me make end-of-life decisions?
  • Who will help me make decisions if I get sick?
  • Who can help me decide when it’s time to move to assisted-living or skilled nursing care?
  • Who can help me organize and review overwhelming medical bills?”

“These,” Pawley states, “are the kinds of things independent health advocates tend to for their clients. You can find these services online or perhaps ask friends if they have recommendations.”

About Shannon M. Pawley, J.D., LL.M

As the owner of The Estate & Asset Protection Law Firm, Shannon M. Pawley and her entire team share a passion which focuses on being able to serve the legal needs of retiring individuals. In our firm, WE BELIEVE that people should not have to lose everything they’ve worked a lifetime to earn and that every person is an individual who deserves respect and the highest quality of life possible, regardless of age or ability. We also believe that privacy and protection are the keys to personal peace. Born and raised in the Tidewater area of Virginia to a tightknit family with strong military service roots, Shannon learned from an early age the value of hard work and the importance of social awareness to ensure you always leave a situation in a better place than how you entered it. In her junior year of high school, Shannon served as U.S. House of Representatives Page during the 101st United States Congressional Session in Washington, D.C. This experience exposed her to numerous new cultures and worldly issues. Walking away from her experience as a U.S. House of Representative Page, Shannon knew that she wanted to pursue legal studies and be able to assist others in obtaining the best results available in difficult situations.

Shannon earned her undergraduate degree at North Carolina Wesleyan College and pursued a law degree from Michigan State University College of Law. After obtaining her law degree and becoming a licensed attorney in Michigan, she continued her educational pursuit by acquiring a LL.M. (Master of Law) in Taxation from Wayne State University. After moving to Georgia in 2018, Shannon obtained her Georgia law license and has enjoyed being able to pursue her desire of ensuring persons are able to age with dignity, grace and independence.
