Life Events That Call For An Estate Plan Review

estate plan review

When is the last time you had an estate plan review?

Why consider an estate plan review? Late spring and early summer herald the height of wedding season. Such a season is well upon us. That means new families are being formed. Additionally, established families are growing and welcoming new members. Also, many families are welcoming newborns. On the other hand, as is always the case, there are the inevitable break-ups.

Perhaps there was a divorce or a death? A new business launched? Or a business dissolved in your life. These are just a few of the many important life events that make it important to review your estate plan.

In addition, medical diagnoses whether they are terminal or indicate that a loved one is losing mental capacity, require a plan review. There is also a possibility you may have changed your mind about a beneficiary or someone you’ve designated as your Power-of-Attorney.

If you have an estate plan already, good for you! If you don’t have one and you are facing any of the above-mentioned life events, it’s a great time to draw up one while you can!

You especially need an estate plan review if a loved one has been diagnosed with dementia or a terminal illness.

There are other events that should inspire a review as well. For example, moving to a new state calls for a careful look. As do major tax changes and/or whether it’s been more than three years since the last review.

As you can see, there are many reasons why you would want to update your estate plan.

And it’s very important to make updates a timely manner. If you fail to review and revise your plan when you have had a life change or change of heart, your estate could end up in the hands of someone not of your choosing.

Whether it’s time for a review or time to create your plan for your estate, give my office a call at 404-370-0696.
